SELF- LOVE...At birth we lean on our parents and family members to help us grow into the women we become but no one stops to think about how we lean on them for love and gratification. Depending on the type of love you are shown as a child, will surely determine the type of love you give yourself as an adult; don’t ya think? For some that is the case but for others it is not so much.

When talking to women, I have found they were shown love but didn’t love themselves as much and then there are others who never experienced love and are lacking some of those elements that make up self-love; even though they are confident. I myself wasn’t shown much love as a kid and struggled in the beginning to find my way to self-love. I stopped wishing I was the Halle Barry, Beyoncé or JLO and started recognizing I am beautiful and uniquely made and there is no other like me and that’s something we as women need to recognize about ourselves.

We are all unique, no two of us are alike and there is no other like me, I am strong, I am beautiful, and just like the L’Oréal commercial “I am worth it” (say it again to yourself). Watching Lizzo perform on the MTV VMA’s, made me smile because she loves herself and wants other women to love themselves. Her music is all about loving who you are and empowering women. As she stated on the Today Show, “it took a lot of time to love me”, and I truly understand where she is coming from.

Learning to love myself, meant I had to stop caring about others opinions of me, not holding back from my dreams, putting myself first, not comparing myself, letting go of toxic people, understanding my fears and conquering them, and trusting myself. Doing those things made me recognized how great I am and confidence started to radiate out of me. I finally stopped looking to be the Beyoncé, and well…just being me, beautiful, strong, and worth it…say it again!
